Alan Ogg passed away this Sunday. He was 42. Alan Ogg died of complications in his staph infection at UAB medical center and hospital on Sunday.

Alan Ogg, 7-foot-2 shot blocker, played for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He spent almost three seasons in the NBA. Alan Ogg arrived at University of Alabama in year 1986 and left UAB when he finished his career in year 1990. He is a career leader in University of Alabama for maximum number of blocked shots per game which is an average of 2.2. He later signed with Miami Heat and played with them for almost two seasons of NBA. He played his third season with Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Bullets. Alan Ogg had a career of 80 basket ball games during his three seasons with NBA. The rebound average for his career stood at 1.7. He played in Germany, Puerto Rico, Philippines, Columbia, China, and Paraguay as a professional basketball player before he retired in 2001.

His fellow team mates remembered Mr. Ogg and said, ‘He just enjoyed the simpler things in life,” Bearden (Alan Ogg’s team mate for four years) says. “He was just a real gentle giant to anyone who knew him.” He also said that UAB family had lost their ‘gentle giant.

UAB Athletic director also expressed his feelings over the death of Alan Ogg and expressed his condolences to the family. The Miami Heat kept silence for a few minutes in his memory before their game on Monday.
