A massive earthquake hit the Samoa Island yesterday. The magnitude was recorded 8.3 on Richter scale. The origin of earthquake was in the southwest of island at depth of 11 miles in the sea. A tsunami warning was issued for the areas including New Zealand, Japan and Russian part of Alaska due to tsunami waves generated by earthquake.

Samoa Islands is the worst affected area and is presenting a picture of total ruin and disaster. 100 casualties have been reported as President Barack Obama calls the event a National Disaster. Aid in the form of medicine, tents, food and other urgently needed items are being dispatched by a C-130 military plane to the area. President Obama has released the relief funds for the victims.

The 15 to 20 feet high waves penetrated about 300~400 feet into the island and ruined everything in its way. Trees were uprooted, houses collapsed and families were left with nothing for shelter or food. The wave has totally disrupted the communications system, further complicating the aid efforts.

The full impact of the event is not known as yet. More damage to property, more lives lost and more tragedy is reported every moment. More and more tragic stories of loss are being reported. A family has lost very thing they had by Tsunami along with the lives of 9 members. The entire world is joining hands to aid efforts.
