Started back in 1933 Dorothy & Allen Baldinger’s Candy Store has satisfied Sweet tooths from over 75 years until it was closed in the June of last year. Baldinger Candy Store was situated on Highway 19 Zelienople in Butler County north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the temptation was penny candy, which actually cost just a penny and children can get 100 pieces of candy for $1.

The interesting thing about the shop was it was exactly the same until closed as it was when it opened by Dorothy & Allen Baldinger back in 1933, I mean the wood floors, candy shelves and even the cash register was the same. Betty Sabo who worked at Baldinger Candy Store as Manager for over 50 years said “the appeal is not just luscious candy, but food from all country¬¬—even some that might make you twist, such as the tequila lollipop with worm, that might make someone’s stomach more nauseous than grateful, but there was plenty of other candies to chose from, but too bad that I never get the chance to go there again.

According to my knowledge this store started as a roadside fruit stand and other food items, but soon found that candy is their hit item, after Dorothy & Allen died the store was passed on to Dorothy’s sister, who hired Betty Sabo to manage day-to-day of the store, she was a teenager at the time, she was hired in 1943. But when Lois Dodge died last year things got complicated and the store is scheduled to close in June, 2008.
