IN THE RECENT DEVELOPMENT – CALTRAN officials have expressed their optimism about the Bay Bridge being opened for early morning rush hour on Friday.

Reportedly welding of the beams and the massive wire has been completed but additional testing may be necessary before opening the bridge for the traffic.

Repairs had been done on the same section of the structure last month after the inspection team discovered a fault in the beam.

On Tuesday two beams and a piece of wire in between came crashing down on the road at the time when traffic is at the peak on Bay Bridge.

As the pictures of the fault became available a two piece wire can be seen lying on the ground with steel parts all around it.

Aerial view of the damage showed a piece of wire suspended in the air also.

At least three vehicles were affected by the accident; however no driver got serious injuries.

The broken pieces were welded in emergency and work was in progress during the night.

The effected patch is near the newly opened S-Part of the bridge, where a big rig overturned a few days ago.

As the earlier news poured in the CALTRAN officials had informed that the bridge would not be opened for Friday morning traffic.

Massive traffic jams resulted as the traffic on the bridge came to a standstill forcing officials to let the jammed vehicles cross the bridge before closing it completely for the traffic.

If the bridge is not opened, the alternate routes are expected to experience very heavy traffic and possible traffic jams.
