California Lottery was first started on 6th of November, 1984; just after the voters of California passed “Proposition 37”, the California Lottery Act. Which authorized to create the California State Lottery with mostly (58 percent) votes supporting the act, its 1st ticket was bought in October, 1985. The minimum age for purchasing or redeeming the tickets of California State Lottery is 18. The first director of the California Lottery was Chon Gutierrez during 1985-1991, who was reappointed as interim director in 2004. The state of California joined Mega Millions on 22nd of June, 2005 and became the twelfth state to link the multi-state lottery. A draw was organized in Hollywood, CA to memorialize the event. California, at the same time never desiring to present the competitor Powerball of Mega Million, which was in shortly a member of the “Multi-State Lottery Association” (MUSL).
