As always is the case, the real affectees of the Peter Cook and Christie Brinkley’s divorce battle are their children whether or not Cook is a narcissist as asserted by Brinkley. The term narcissist has its roots in Greek mythology. According to the mythology Narcissus was a beautiful man. He was so beautiful and in awe of his personality that he rejected the love of a woman and was punished to be turned into a flower bearing his name – Narcissus.

Narcissism refers to a morbid love for one’s own image or self. The term has some sexual undertrones and in psychology refers to excessive masturbation!

Brinkley’s suggestion to Google the term “Divorcing a Narcissist” to understand the differences between the couple refers to her view of the Cook as being extremely selfish. The rumors have it that the differences have their origin in Cook having dated a young girl, working at a store. As if that was not enough, Cook is said to have spent thousands of dollars viewing pornographic material. As the divorce proceedings got underway Brinkley refused to hand over their son’s passport. As a result their son Jack, 14, was not able to go on an educational trip to Egypt.

“Divorcing a Narcissist” may have some legal importance. According to Dr. Vaknin’s work on narcissism, the narcissistic fears be expressed as underlying cause while divorce proceedings involving such person are underway.

The couple since then has reached an agreement, making Brinkley to return the passport of Jack.
