It is presumed that goonch catfish is behind many of mysterious human disappearances. Evolution is a process through which different species adapt to environment and demonstrate gradual changes with the passage of time. A change in the environment may make a carnivore to herbivore as a result of the environmental variations and vice versa.

The River Kali which is located between India and Nepal has goonch catfish which is a “man eater” now. The monster fish can have the size of six feet with a weight of eleven tones. The great Kali River is the dumping ground for Hindu dead bodies. In Hindu religion, dead bodies are not buried in graves but either they are burnt or thrown in to this river which is sacred for them.

There is a hypothetical opinion about the goonch catfish that it has evolved its eating habits and has developed the taste of “human flesh” available at the bottom of the river leading to a habit of attacking the human beings who still have life.

Jeremy Wade, who is a biologist as well as a deft fisherman, decided to probe the hypothesis regarding the man-eater goonch catfish at the bottom of the river for Channel Five. He told that some local people have suggested that the catfish has become greater in size due to evolved eating habits of the fish. But he is of the view that the fish cannot increase its size by eating more. But, certainly, it has developed the taste of human flesh she finds in the river. Wade succeeded in catching one goonch catfish which had six feet length. Locals are holding the goonch catfish responsible for the disappearance of a young boy.
