The real name of Harry Belafonte is Harold George Belafonte Jr., who was born on 1st March, 1927 in Harlem, New York. He is Jamaican American actor, social activist and a musician. Harry Belafonte is famous globally because of his activities as a concert singer and recording artist, as a producer and an actor, and for his promise to human rights. Harry Belafonte was selected a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador on 4th of March, l987. Harry Belafonte is one of the most successful famous singers in the history; he was dubbed the “King of Calypso”.
Harry Belafonte is maybe best recognized for singing the “Banana Boat Song”, with its signature lyric “Day-O”. During his career, Harry Belafonte has been an advocate for humanitarian causes and civil rights. He was a speaking opponent of the policies of the Bush Administration.
Harry Belafonte has an extensive and illustrious protest record. He became the first culture advisor to the Peace Corps of Entertainment industry in the early 1960s. Harry Belafonte was a foremost architect of the Civil Rights Movement. He raised millions of dollars to help for emergency assistance in Africa by bring together forty five top performers to record the song “We Are the World” in l985.
