Scientists and naturalists all over the world are working to save the animal species which are fast becoming extinct. We have seen campaigns, public seminars, media messages, and articles published in the news papers. But recently, a scientist named Peter Jager has named rare specie of spiders after a famous artist. Jager has discovered very hairy, yellow colored spiders and has named them heteropoda davidbowie after the Quietus artist David Bowie.

According to the reports, Peter Jager, who is an arachnologist, has found rare specie of yellow spiders in Malaysia. The specie is extinct and Peter has urged to enter its name in the list of endangered animals. Jager also named this newly found specie after a very famous British Pop star David Bowie and hence the specie is called heteropoda davidbowie. Jager says that naming the animals after celebrities help people to recognize them and protect them.

But why David Bowie? Apparently, the inspiration of naming the arachnid after David Bowie comes from the artist’s timeless music album title, ‘The Rise and Fall of ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars’.

These spiders can be distinguished form the rest by their significantly large size, yellow color, and too much hair on the legs. These spiders are not poisonous and venomous. They can be usually found in Malaysia.

Peter Jager has been working to save the extinct species of spiders since last many years. His campaign started off with making a room for spiders in the list of endangered animals issued by International Union of Conserving Nature (IUCN). His last campaign was about the spiders in Sri lanka as there habitat was being removed by cutting trees and cleaning the ground to build hotels and tourist spots.
