House on haunted Hill is 1999 horror/thriller. Actor Taye Diggs won the Blockbuster Entertainment Award for his role in the movie.

House on haunted hill was a mental asylum. As the asylum belonged to the era before the advent of modern psychiatric medicine, it was a common practice to employ barbaric means to treat patients. Special arrangements were adopted to keep the patients from running out of the facility. Arrangements included iron gates with a mechanism that kept the facility locked throughout the night and the gates were opened only in the morning. The asylum met its end as some of the patients managed to kill the staff and the facility itself was set on fire killing almost every one. Asylum was shut and with the passage of time gained popularity as “House on Haunted Hill”

The plot of the film is woven around a couple Evelyn and Price. Their relationship is under stress. Comes Halloween and Evelyn’s birthday. To celebrate the event in an unusual way the celebration is planned in the House on Haunted Hill. A guest list is prepared however Evelyn rejects the list and prepares another list. To add extra charm to the event a prize money of $ 1 Million is announced for the ones who are able to withstand the horrors and spend the night in the house. The five persons who arrive to spend the night were not on the list. It is revealed that the “Darkness” of haunted mansion has its own agenda to push.

We watch in horror as one by one the entire guest succumb to the Darkness of the haunted house.

A sequel of the movie was released in 2007 with the title Return to House on Haunted Hill.
