Autumn brings a new wave of festivals and carnivals in America. People in America, no matter where they live, can find a festival happening around in the area. One of the many festivals which autumn brings along is Johnny Appleseed Festival. Johnny Appleseed Festivals are those festivals which are celebrated in the memory of John Chapman. John Chapman was a man of colorful character. During the later years of his life, he traveled in different areas around for Wayne and the country side in its surrounding. He traveled these areas on foot and planted orchards. The numerous orchards he planted made him a national hero. His gravesite is present in For Wayne National Park and is registered as a historic place.

Every year Johnny Appleseed Festival is celebrated in the memory of John Chapman in the months of September or October. The largest Johnny Appleseed Festival is held at Johnny Appleseed Park in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This festival has a history of multiple decades and it started with only 20 vendors in 1974. Today the festival hosts more than 200 vendors and they belong to 42 different states. The feature which makes the Johnny Appleseed Festival is the old customs which are followed in the festival, and by old we mean anything which does not belong to recent few centuries. The vendors wear a costumes of 1800 era. No gas cooking is allowed and food is made on open fire. The festival also hosts music performances with instruments which are centuries-old. Performances by pipe, fife, and drum corps are a tradition at the festival.
