The Kennedy Center Honors was hosted by Caroline Kennedy, while President Barack Obama, first lady and Vice President Joe Biden were among the guests of the ceremony.
The five individuals who were honoured with the 32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors include rock musician Bruce Springsteen, director, producer, actor, screenwriter Mel Brooks, the most amazing actor of all times Robert DeNiro, jazz musician Dave Brubeck and opera singer Grace Bumbry.
All the honourees were paid tribute individually by the performers and colleagues they had worked with in the ceremony that lasted for two hours.
Jazz musician and pianist 89-year-old Dace Brubeck was awarded the honor for his versatility and unique style of music, ranging from natural to sophisticate and from classic to variant.
While Mel Brooks was awarded for his unconventional, irreverent and cheeky sense of humour that holds nothing sacred.
Opera singer Grace Bumbry was awarded for her lifetime work in the field of opera singing, she came from humble roots and rose to become a widely known and major opera singer. She debuted in the major Opera Houses of Europe.
Actor Robert De Niro was honoured with the Kennedy Center Honors for putting the sheer life into his roles. The Godfather II’s “Vito Corleone”, Raging Bull’s “Jake LaMotta”, Casino, Taxi Driver’s “Travis Bickle” and Good Fellas’s “Jimmy Conway” are few of those characters in which Robert De Niro put his sheer soul.
Rock Musician Bruce Springsteen was awarded for being the most amazing singer and composer. The rock icon who still sells out concerts as a rocker was awarded with the Kennedy Center Honors for his services in the field of performing arts and music.
