It is now an old story when Len Bias passed away but the tragic moments seem not to have been thrown in to oblivion when we watch Without Bias. The documentary went on-air on ESPN on Tuesday. Bias died at the age of 22 due to drug usage but people still do not believe it as the cause of his death and have their own suspicions. It is because the documentary comprises the interviews of his close relatives and friends. The interviewees included one of his close friends, Brian Tribble, who had been with him until last night of his life.

The documentary takes an exploratory view of his life and presents how his tragic death had deep impact on America. To be true, his death totally transformed America. Bias’s death has been exploited by the advocates of harsh punitive action against the drug-addicts. Even legislature used his name in prospective bills e.g. “Len Bias Laws”. The bills were successfully passed by the congress and other state organs. The usage of his name played an important role in developing positive perception for law makers as well as for public. Without Bias throws light on the aspect that hasty response to soothe the grief of his death led to bad legislation. Although the theme of the documentary revolves around his catastrophic death yet it also gives glimpses of his most celebrated performances.

Some scenes of the documentary really sadden the viewers especially when he was given trophy of ‘player of the year’ in 1986. At the beginning of the documentary, Bias says, “”I think I’ve been really blessed by the Lord”.
