Mallard Fillmore first emerged from the pen of “Bruce Tinsley” at The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Virginia. Today, the illustrious comic strip about Tinsley’s conventional reporter-duck plugs the statement in nearly 400 newspapers countrywide.

Since 1994, “King Features Syndicate” circulates Mallard Fillmore comic strip. Readers of newspapers all over the country enjoy the duck’s right-wing point of view. Bruce Tinsley created Mallard Fillmore for what he saw as the conventional loser. The strip represents the “average forgotten American taxpayer” who is sick of the moderate media and cultural organization that act as if he/she does not exist. “Mallard Fillmore” not quite sees the day light.

The Daily Progress requested Bruce Tinsley to come up with a mascot for the newspapers entertainment section; he introduced the editor with three ideas; a big nose in tuxedo and cane, a blue hippopotamus and a duck. According to Bruce Tinsley, the hippopotamus was not used as mascot because it will offend heavyweight people of the society, and the idea of the nose in tuxedo and cane was dismissed because it would “upset people of Jewish, Mediterranean, Arab and anyone else with a big nose. He first thought that his editors were joking, but actually, they were not.

Bruce Tinsley was fired from his job when he refused to tone-down “Mallard Fillmore” its conventional bias. “Mallard Fillmore” comic strip caught the interest of The Washington Times; they have used the comic character wise-quacking journalist in the comments section before moving the strip to the comic’s pages.
