Marvin Sonsona a 19-year-old power puncher became the latest Filipino boxing champion on Friday sep.4; he won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior bantamweight title against Jose Lopez, at the Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada.

From the very beginning, Marvin Sonsona was very confident about his victory for the WBO 115-pound title, 34 years old Lopez entered last night’s fight with a status for power and resilience. He had 32 knockouts in his 39 wins and hadn’t been defeated in any of his previous seven pro losses. Sonsona marked him early with overhand rights but Lopez, a professional for almost two decades, stood strong, unexciting forward and striking with loose handed shots to Sonsona’s body.

A round later Marvin Sonsona crushed Lopez with his callous performance; remained Lopez crushed flat on his back near the ropes. Though Lopez continued pressing forward, sapping Sonsona’s strength but in the eighth round lost two points, after frequent low blows, and as the fight progressed a re-energized Sonsona again began to lose the control of his competitor, and Lopez could not offset the strength of Sonsona, who showed no signs of slowing down. In the 12th round, Marvin Sonsona proudly strolled near the ropes as a few hundred of his fans rose; they were jumping and waving small Filipino flags.

It was also Sonsona’s 14th professional fight and he was going to win his first career title fight on the international level. His previous 13 fights were held in different provinces and cities of Philippines. Sonsona, who is also a left-handed puncher like Pilipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao, took the advantage of his two-inch height against his challenger in landing Lopez at the end of second round.

At Rama, Canada, Young Filipino star puts on grand show and exposed his excellent professional skills ,he not only won the title but the heart of his fans.
