Rev. Mary Glasspool has been elected as the bishop of Episcopal Church and is the first officially elected gay bishop. The Episcopalians voted for bishop on Saturday in Los Angeles.

According to the details, Marry Douglass Glasspool has been elected by the Los Angeles Episcopalians as bishop of the Episcopal Church. The voting was conducted on late Saturday and the results showed that the church goers have voted for the 55-year-old Mary Glasspool who is openly lesbian. She is the first gay bishop who has been elected since the church lifted the ban which refrains gay and lesbian from appointment in any post in the church. The ban was lifted after the church decided to end the agreement which was made to keep the Anglican community together. The Anglican communion, which has 77 million member denomination around the world, have opposed the appointment of gay bishops. The head of the Anglican Communion, the archbishop of Canterbury, stated in a comment to

Glasspool’s election that this election has raised ‘very serious questions’ for the Episcopal Church.

Mary Glasspool, 55, lives in Baltimore. She has been in an open relationship with a woman for 1988. Her partner Becki Sander has recently obtained a doctoral degree in social work. Mary Glasspool is also the second female bishop in 114-year history of the church. Rev. Mary Douglas Glasspool has remained priest for more than 27 years. Her father was also an Episcopal priest. If approved formally, she will be appointed on the second highest post of church.
