Nathan Myhrvold is so much brimming with creativity and new ideas that he has applied for almost 100 new patents to his name. He has worked for Microsoft but left the software giant to start his own firm with the name of “Intellectual Ventures”.

Nathan Myhrvold’s revolutionary idea that has recently gripped the news papers, blogs and scientists alike is about cooling the earth and minimizing the effects of global warming. A little explanation at this point is necessary to understand Nathan’s idea, global warming is pretty tricky phenomenon with multiple and long lasting effects. Polar ice is melting so fast that the scientists are predicting that all the ice would be gone within our life time. If that happens many countries would be wiped off the face of earth. If it seems fictional consider the case of Maldives. The rising waters are literally threatening the existence of Maldives and the local population is fast evacuating the place.

Nathan Myhrvold is of the view that it is too late to cut carbon emissions to reduce global warming. Moreover Carbon di Oxide is pretty stable substance up in the atmosphere. He says that even if the carbon emissions are cut significantly, which is pretty doubtful, it would take one more century to feel the effects.

He has proposed the idea of spreading sulfur particles in the stratosphere, some 25 kilometers above the surface of earth. The particles would do just one thing and that is to return some of the sun’s harmful ray back into the space.

He says that he is favoring sulfur because it is a natural substance.
