National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
1989 Christmas comedy movie “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” would convey a message of hope this Christmas also. Clark Griswold – Chevy Chase is jobless for seven years yet he plans to celebrate the Christmas in a nontraditional and memorable way and in his efforts creates the comedic theme of the movie. As the movie starts Clark is seen messing it up with a saleswoman. Clark is on his way to woods with his family, to find the perfect Christmas tree. As Clark kisses his wife there goes something wrong, the car appears to be under some “shadow”. It is revealed that he has driven the car under a big trailer, and as Clark pulls his car out, there it goes like a missile into the heaps of snow. At last the dream tree is found but…there is no saw to cut it. The ideal tree is too big to fit in anywhere, let alone inside the house, hence lot of breaking and crashing is going on.
Perhaps one the most hilarious sequence of the film is where Clark has come up with the idea of adorning
the house with some 25000 bulbs. After the repeated tries the bulbs won’t light up and it is discovered that the power switch is off all the time. Clark’s wife switches on the lights and nearby power grid goes down, making all the town go deep in darkness. The electricity is restored after the grid is switched to nuclear power!
As the alternate Christmas tree is installed in the house, there is a squirrel in it and a very funny sequence ensues.
At long last everything fits in, making it the real memorable Christmas.
