By any means the ballot in Maine is historic. The proposition one of the ballot asks the Portland Maine public whether they want to overturn the law favoring same sex marriages a “No” would help the Gay community and their supporters whereas a “Yes” would help the proponents of straight marriages. As the last news poured in the votes in the favor of homosexual marriages were 51.58% and opposing the law were at 48.42%. The Portland Maine media company that owns most of the newspapers in the county provided the opportunity to both the groups for debating the issue openly.

As a matter of fact the issue is not as simple as picking “Yes or No”. Maine would be the first city that has provided general public an opportunity to voice their choice. Same sex marriages have been already legalized in five states but it was not through the majority vote, it was either through the orders of a judge or through legislation. Both the sides are pitching in their best effort and resources to gather as much support for them as possible.

In a recent development, I have just came to known the state of Maine has over turned the decision to legalize same sex marriages. All I can think of are Obama’s words when he said that God has created marriage to be a relationship between a man and a woman. It’s just a puff of fresh air and we hope that same results would be repeated in other states also. Not only that but the states where the law has already been passed (forcefully) would follow suit and overturn it…… Bravo people of Maine!
