Preeclampsia is a disorder during pregnancy or right after it. The signs of the disorder include high blood pressure coupled with protein in the urine. There is no single reason responsible for the disorder. That’s why there are many symptoms and causes of the disease.
When this medical condition takes place, it is highly probable that some material of the placenta has created endothelial dysfunction in the blood vessels of the mother. The blood pressure damages the liver, kidneys and endothelium. The disorder not only affects the mother but also the baby. The statistics tell that around five to eight percent pregnant women are affected with this condition. The condition rapidly increases in its intensity along with raised levels of blood pressure and proteins in urine. As there is no fixed “set of symptoms”, the condition may take place with varied signs. Swelling, increase in body mass, variation in eye-sight are some of the symptoms of the condition, however, many mothers may experience more intense progress of the disease despite there are only one or two symptoms.
The condition of preeclampsia usually occurs after twenty weeks of pregnancy. But there is exception to this general rule as the condition may occur even on an early stage of pregnancy. Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) is also another “relative” of the disorder. Internationally, Preeclampsia and other diseases causing hyper-tension are the major reasons of sickness as well as death of mothers as well as babies. These medical conditions cause death to around 75,000 mothers and half a million babies each year.
