A lot of people could come up with many things for which they would die for and like that lot Rose Mankos decided what she was going to die for as she jumped onto a railway track to retrieve her bag which fell onto it. The fifty-three year old woman made a fatal decision soon after her back fell on an Upper East Side track for the New York City subway. Had the bag contained something valuable like a hundred thousand dollars the decision would have made some sense but later investigation showed that the nylon bag contained nothing more than her toiletries, her mobile phone and her exercise clothes.

Rose Mankos was a resident of New York City and was carrying her gym bag on the crowded platform when it fell. She jumped onto the tracks and left the bystanders in a shock as no man or woman in their senses would jump onto a track like that. Maybe Rose Mankos didn’t expect the train to come so soon but eye witnesses of the incident say that after she had

retrieved her bag she did make a few attempts to avoid the oncoming train. She first tried to stay out of the path of the train by ducking under the platform but soon realized that it wasn’t the best of her options as she tried to clamber up to the platform just seconds later. The attempts to climb back up were futile and the lights of the train could already be made out coming out of the darkness of the subway.

In the last seconds of her life she froze stiff as the train driver tried his best to bring the train to a halt but he was unsuccessful. He had blown the horn of the train to warn her quite a few times but there was just nothing that she could do.
