Schimpff’s is a confectionery with a twist; it is a candy museum also. Since the confectionery traces back its roots to a time when the family had migrated to settle in Louisville in 1850~1860 and a confectionery business was started by the family in 1870, the museum showcases old candy wrappers and advertisements. The museums offer free visits.

As the history has it the Schimpff’s migrated from Bavaria. The girls of the family busied themselves with the embroidery while the sons in their quest to find livelihood started a confectionary business. Schimpff’s have been in the confectionery business for four generation and in 1940 the business was owned by Catherine, Wig and Sonny. The duo of Catherine and Sonny went on to operate the business till 1989. The business is still operated by Schimpff family and offers a unique amalgam of history and modernity.

The lunch room still retains it old tin ceiling that has seen so many seasons and ups and downs of time.

Cinnamon Red Hots and Fish Candies are Schimpff’s specialties. The candies come at affordable prices and Cinnamon Red Hots pack priced at $6.75.

The legend behind the Cinnamom Red Hot candies is that one of the confectionery founders Sonny was gravely ill and was admitted in a hospital. There Brother Billy Branham visited Sonny, and as he tried to give him courage to fight the disease he assured Sonny that he would be behind the counter once again and would be selling candies.

Sonny made full recovery! The confectionery remains open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 A.M till 5:00 P.M.
