Shilpa Shetty Wedding

It was the ‘I Do’ time for Shilpa Shetty who exchanged her wedding vows with Raj Kundra. The wedding held in the hill station of Maharashtra state of India. The event was well-attended by Shilpa’s close friends and family members.

Clad in red wedding dress designed by Tarun Tahiliani, 34-year-old Shilpa exchanged her wedding vows according to the norms and cultures of Mangalorean community to which she belongs. Raj, a London-based businessman and a millionaire, was sporting a maroon traditional sherwani embellished with golden embroidery. A traditional turban was also worn by the groom to compliment the sherwani. The groom was also wearing a veil made with strings of pearls and a holding sword as per local Indian traditions.

The ceremony was a two-day event fully scheduled with festive celebrations. A sangeet ceremony (dance night for the friends) was held on Saturday. Shilpa’s friends and sisters learned dance steps on the hottest Bollywood songs from the leading choreographers of India.

It was expected that stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Rekha, Farah Khan, the Kapoors, and the Bachans will grace the wedding but none of them was noticed at the ceremony. Only actors Rohit Roy and designer Tahiliani were seen in the ceremony.

Fans from the local’s area were kept at bay by the private security and police. However, press photographers were allowed. Shilpa also uploaded an entry at her blog about her D-day and it was titled ‘This is it’.

Shilpa Shetty met the London-based businessman Raj Kundra after winning the British reality show Big Brother in 2007. The rumors of their marriage were in the air earlier this year but Shilpa strongly denied them until she got engaged to Raj.

The couple has left for Raj’s Bombay home.

Shilpa’s sister, Shamita who is also an actress, withdrew voluntarily from the third season of Big Brother to attend her sister’s wedding ceremony. Shamita commented on her withdraw and said that she was happy that she was able to attend her sister’s wedding as both are close to each other.
