Sophia Gokey

Sophia Gokey was the wife of “Daniel Gokey” one of the three finalists and one of the contestants of the American Idol season 8. Danny’s wife Sophia Gokey died just a month before his audition for American Idol. Daniel is a music teacher and church choir leader of Faith Builders International Ministries, Milwaukee. Danny’s wife Sophia Gokey gave him the confidence to audition for American Idol, but unfortunately, she didn’t live long enough to see his husband sing in the competition. Sophia Gokey died during her heart surgery in July 2008. She was 27 years old at the time. She had a congenital heart stipulation.

Sophia Gokey was born on 16th August, 1980 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and lived there throughout her life. Her birth name was “Sophia Linnette Martinez” and she was born in the house of Juan and Ana Martinez. After Sophia death during her heart surgery in July, 2009, Danny her husband set up a foundation in her reminiscences by the name of “Sophia’s Heart Foundation”. The mission of the foundation is to donate musical instruments to those children who cannot afford and to make a constructive impact on the lives of the students through Music and Arts Program; on the other hand Sophia Gokey Scholarship Fund donates $1,000 scholarship to those high school students who face challenges in pursuing their dreams.

Denial Gorkey auditioned for American Idol after a month Sophia Gokey died and got selected, his life story and his talent in music made him the favorite in American Idol, but unfortunately he did not win the competition Denial Gokey was eliminated from American Idol on Wednesday night, but his voice and his story remains with all of us as long as we live.
