The word ‘Sternutation’ means sneezing. Although sneezing is a natural phenomena yet has some external reasons that cause sneezing or sternutation to happen. The external particles or irritants are thrown out of the nasal cavity when there is a viral attack. The sternutation exhibits interesting and autonomous functioning of different parts of the body during sneezing.
During sneezing, the tongue blocks the way through mouth so that maximum air from lungs could eject through nose. But the mouth is not fully blocked and a room for some air-ejection remains there. The intensity of sneezing varies. Sneezes have interesting history to narrate. In olden times sneezes were considered as the sign from gods.
In fourth century before Christ, for example, Xenophon, the general of the army of Athens, was motivating his soldiers to assure them that their valor would embrace victory if they fight against Persians without the fear of death. During his encouraging and dramatic speech, a soldier sneezed and every one in the army thought it as a positive sign from the gods and bowed before the general and promised to fight the enemy bravely.
In Asia, sneeze has different sign to believe in. In Asian cultures, when somebody sneezes without any noticeable reason. It is believed that someone has remembered him at that moment and mentioned him in his discussion. In India, a sneeze is perceived as a bad omen which is the prediction that something bad is going to happen or severe barrier in the normal functioning of things is imminent.
