“Climate Change in the Magellan and Antarctic Region: Facts and Challenges for the Future,” was the topic of the meeting of the renowned climate scientists who gathered in Torres Del Paine Chile. The meeting was an effort to raise the awareness of the biodiversity of the area and the deleterious effects global warming is having on the environment of the area and how to counter them. The location chosen for the meeting that is Grey Glacier is in itself symbolic and points to the hazards that global warming is posing on such delicate areas. The scientists agreed that if they are to save Strait of Magellan the meetings would not be enough; solid steps are required on the part of the Governments and general public, before it’s too late.

As the eco system of Straits of Magellan is in danger, it has raised the awareness about the area also. People like me have come to know about the area and its importance in regulating the global weather for the first time.

As a matter of fact the hazards that Straits of Magellan is facing are not unique. Maldives would sooner than later would be wiped off the face of world thanks to gas guzzlers in U.S and Europe. Bush administration stubbornly refused to take any action and environmental forums remained an opportunity to sell American products. With Obama administration’s clear stance on the issue, we all hope that things would start moving on the positive side.

It is just the time to STOP SEEING THE WORLD AS DIVIDED IN ISOLATED PARTS; we would have to develop an integrated approach.
