The problem with green houses is that they let the sun’s harmful rays enter into the atmosphere of the earth. But disrupt the natural mechanism whereby the rays are returned back out of the environment after being reflected from the earth’s surface. Now environmental scientists have discovered another man made gas Trifluoromethyl Sulfur Pentafluoride that is almost 20,000 times more potent than Carbon dioxide in restraining the rays from going back out of the environment. The most harmful aftermath of the change brought about by the substances like Trifluoromethyl Sulfur Pentafluoride is global warming. Global warming is the culprit behind rising sea levels. Rising sea levels would totally eliminate Maldives off the face of earth within this century. A host of problems have been attributed to global warming from El Nino Effect to rainfall changes.

Nature has its own mechanism to breakdown the harmful substances into more benign ones; however Trifluoromethyl Sulfur Pentafluoride is a stable compound, so much so that its life is millions of years. Fortunately the compound is present in the minimal quantities in the environment, if the concentration of the substance increases, it would surely pose more trouble than already discovered greenhouse gases have posed.

Scientist has estimated that Trifluoromethyl Sulfur Pentafluoride first entered into the environment in 60s and is structurally similar to sulfur hexafluoride. Sulfur hexafluoride is also a greenhouse gas. The human processes that are resulting in the increased concentration of the gas in the air are not very well understood.
