Dress Code woes of a 4-years-old: Taylor Pugh’s long locks made the school admin suspend him.

Taylor Pugh, a 4-year-old, is being punished with in-school suspension for his long locks. Floyd Elementary School’s principal sent a letter to Taylor’s parent a month ago that their son’s long locks are against the school’s dress code and threatened them to withdraw their son from the school or make his hair comply with the code of conduct. Taylor’s parents didn’t heed to the warning call from the school and hence the school administration decided to suspend the kid. Weeks later, the administration decided that the suspension punishment would be too harsh for the young kid and hence changed it. Now Taylor Pugh is facing the in-school suspension punishment and his locks are longer than before.

Taylor Pugh’s parents are protesting against the school’s decision. Taylor’s father, who is a tattoo artist, says that it is wrongful to snub a young boy when his acts are not harming any other kid in the school and his education.

When talked to the school district about the matter, Ian Halperin, the spokesperson for Mesquite Independent School District, said that it is against the code of conduct to keep long hair. He told that the district has a dress code for both boys and girls and it asks that male students’ hair must not be longer than the bottom of earlobes. Ian Halperine says that the district cannot let any student violate the policy.

The Pugh family says that their 4-years-old son, Taylor Pugh, wants to grow long hair as he wants to donate them as charity to make wigs for cancer patients.

Taylor Pugh is now taught in a separate classroom alone and his parents are not happy with the school district’s policy.

Mesquite Independent School District is famous for its strict rules. Earlier this year, similar confrontations were raised between school admin and parents when a seventh-grader was suspended for sporting skinny pants. His parents later chose to teach their son at home.
