A galaxy of stars was present at the memorial service of MJ to pay their tribute to the legendary “King of Pop”. Among stars like Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Usher and Lionel Richie there was an unknown face at-least for most of the audience and every one wondered who is this Trey Lorenz, the person sang duet ‘I’ll Be There’ with Mariah Carey.

The 40-year-old singer Trey Lorenz from Florence, SC is a longtime friend and partner of Mariah Carey. In 1992 he sang a duet with Carey, for her album cover that was debuted on “MTV Unplugged” and went on to become the number one hit single for her.

The first meeting of Trey Lorenz and Mariah Carey was in 1990 when he was a junior at Farleigh Dickinson University and was singing with an R&B group “Squeak & the Deep”. A friend of Lorenz’s friend took him to a recording studio where Mariah Carey was recording her first album and they went along well. Later Mariah Carey invited Trey Lorenz to join her on her tour as a backup singerfor her promotional tour back in 1990.

In 1992 after the success of “MTV Unplugged” cover song, Tommy Mottola, CEO Sony made a record deal with Trey Lorenz, the self-title album consist of top 20 hit “Someone to Hold,” was released in 1993. The album was co-produced, co-written and featured the voice of Mariah Carey as backup voice. Unfortunately the album did not succeed and Trey Lorenz selected backup singing as a career. He sang as background vocalist for many renowned artistic over the years, such as Salena, TLC, Will Smith and Usher.

But it feels like after yesterday’s performance with Mariah Carey at Michael Jackson memorial service, he might be able to win another solo deal for himself.
