October is the month of Breast Cancer Awareness and various events are scheduled to spread more information about breast cancer among women. An event was conducted by the CBCC (Capital Breast Care Center) in the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Washington to mark the start of the month. A breakfast fundraiser held in which many breast cancer patients hared their own experiences and awareness speeches were made by the medical experts. A total of 600 people attended the event. One of the participants, Tovioa Miner shared her story and told the audience how she gradually developed a pea-sized tumor which eventually turned out to be a Triple Negative Breast Cancer. She is one of the many African-American women who have developed this sub-type of the cancer.

Not many people are aware of Triple Negative Breast Cancer. As mentioned earlier, it is a c sub-type of the cancer which is especially prevalent in African-American population of America. The unique profile of cancerous cells and their aggressive behavior makes this type of breast cancer distinctive. The rate of developing Triple Negative Breast Cancer is greater in younger women than in older women. Triple Negative Cancerous can lead to visceral metastasis (including brain metastasis). Early detection of the cancerous tumors can help in getting fast treatment.

According to an estimation carried out in 2008, over 1 million women world wide have a chance to develop breast cancer. 172,695 women of these will be diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer.
