Hundreds of people paid tribute to the Veterans who were sailing in USS Arizona during the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor.

December 7 is remembered in the US history as Pearl Harbor day as thousands of US Navy men died when Japan attacked USS Arizona during World War II. USS Arizona was battleship which belongs to the US Navy Pennsylvania class. The battleship was first named Arizona to honor the Arizona state. Arizona State was the 48th state which joined the union which is now called United States of America. The ship was first commissioned in 1916.

In 1913, American Congress approved the bill to construct the Pennsylvania-class’s last ship Arizona. It was launched in June 1915 and was inaugurated by Esther Ross, the daughter of a well-known Arizona pioneer. The remaining machinery was fitted in the battleship after the inauguration and was commissioned in 1916. It served the US Navy in World War I but is best known for the Japanese attack in 1941 during the Second World War After finishing some sea voyages during the middle era between the two world wars, USS Arizona was returned back at the Pearl Harbor.

On December 7, 1941 two Japanese aircrafts struck the Pearl Harbor and made two aerial attacks. The alarm of USS Arizona, which was onboard at Pearl Harbor at that time, went off. A bomb was dropped at the ship’s deck shortly after the alarm went off and it ignited the ship’s own armament magazine. The ship officers started evacuating the sailors from the ship as fire broke out. The ship’s damage control officer tried to extinguish the fire but suddenly a bomb hit the ship’s magazines and a blast occurred. More than 1,177 men lost their lives including the crew staff of USS Arizona.

In memory of those veterans, Pearl Harbor day is celebrated every 7th of the December where the visitors pay tribute to the veterans.
